I think I broke the toaster...

There has to be a simple fix for this, because it was so easy to break....
We have a 4-slice toaster, 1 button controls 2 slices....
Last week I was cleaning out the crumbs and shook it pretty good over the sink, and now only one side will stay down to toast.... the other works if I hold it down but who wants to stand there for 3 minutes holding a toaster lever down?
DH looked at it quick but he was too tired.
Any thoughts?

I think your going to have to take it apart. seems like something mighth ave came loose when you shook it with your super stregth.

How old is your toaster? Maybe this is an excuse to get a newer BETTER one! Do you have a toaster oven? I had never owned one until a couple of years ago when my girlfriend gave me one. Now I can't imagine life without it... and I ditched my traditional style toaster completely.

I know that 'throw it away' isn't exactly the 'green' solution. Just looking at all options.

I had a similar problem inside my toaster. The problem was that the screws to take it apart were "security Torx". Kind of difficult to find. Turned out cheaper to replace. My toaster was a Krups, so is the new one.

We had a toaster oven at the old house but gave it away when we moved.
THat was dumb.
I want one again, mostly for roasting garlic... seems silly to me to heat up a whole oven for 2 little heads of garlic... but I do it anyway for the love of garlic.
anyway, cant get either that OR a new toaster right now so I was hoping to fix it.

Yep, sounds like a tab somewhere inside needs a slight tweeking....

I have a fairly new Cuisinart 2 slicer that the push down button would release
back up immediately. It has a button to cancel/end toasting that releases
the button back up, but I just used to pull the button up.

I took it apart. Toasters aren't really designed to be taken apart tho.
Rather than some screws, they use tabs that you need to bend to get
to the guts. I fiddled around with it, I forgot if I did any major tweaking,
but I put it back together and it worked.

You may have too much on your hands to want to mess with it. Mine only
cost $29 or so. Sometimes...not often, taking things apart and putting
them back together actually fixes the problem...somehow.

The bummer is...you get used to the style, color, design of your toaster, and when
it breaks...you can never find that same model which broke, which you were so happy with.
Maybe on eBay.
