My kitchen is completely gutted. I have a microwave that causes all of the power to short out, a rice cooker and a crockpot. I need to start making some home cooked meals as we are sick to death of pizza and it's ilk.

I plan to make meatballs and sauce in the crock tomorrow. Does anyone know if there is a way to cook pasta in a rice cooker or in the sauce towards the end of the cooking process?

I think it's possible, but I've never tried.

:help:

Oh, and any other creative cooking ideas based on my limitations are welcome. :nuke:

Wow. Don't have a rice cooker, so can't answer that.

Crock pot lasagna is very good. For the slow cooker: Chili, rotisserie chicken carcass stock for soup, bean and/or pea soup, stew, pork loin with slivered garlic stuck in little slits with a bit of soy sauce, endless slow cooker recipes.

Good luck! Hope you love your new kitchen!

Go buy a single burner for 15 bucks. You can plug it in next to the bbq in the summer when your done with your kitchen

Why didn't I think of that? I use mine for canning, it would work well for everyday.

Great idea, 4me!

Yes it is possible; I have done in many times. It is just like
cooking pasta in any other pot. I have an older bottom of the
line Black & Decker Rice cooker.
Just put the water in the Rice cooker then press the button to
change it from "warm" to "Cook" or whatever the settings are
on your Rice Cooker. Put the lid on and wait for it to come to
a boil....mine takes a little while....then ad the Pasta and put the
lid on....DON'T Walk Away...when it returns to a boil; it will
boil over if you leave the lid on.

When it starts to boil, remove the lid and finish cooking the
Pasta with the lid off. When the Pasta is almost done you can
drain it and add the Pasta to the sauce or the sauce to the Pasta
for it to finish.:chef:

I started using my Rice Cooker to cook Pasta a few years ago
because I had become disabled and it was hard to stand at the
stove and cook....but I can put the Rice Cooker on the counter
and lean on the counter for support when I need too while the
Rice or Pasta is cooking. So, yes; you can easily cook Pasta
in your Rice Cooker.

Not a bad idea, but we have severe issues with power outtages right now. I'll keep your idea on "the back burner" ;)until we get the electrical problems corrected.
