Hi,

I have recently moved to france and my apartment has an electric oven. I have read some of the other threads but none of them seem to have quite the same oven as me..The oven has one thermostat hat controls oven and grill. However it does not use farenheit or celsius, instead using Gas marks even tho it isn't gas. When I turn the dial, the first mark it reaches is 6 - is this the hottest setting or do i keep turning down to 5,4,3,2,1?
When i reach 2, the grill turns on. I presume the hottest setting for the oven would still be 6? or do i use the grill at the same time at setting 2 to get the most heat? Also how long does the oven need to heat up? It is quite an old oven, conventional not fan, an Arthur Martin Electrolux.

Thanks

Buy a little oven thermometer and check it out for yourself. That way you will know for sure what is going on.

My feeling is that every cook should have an oven thermometer whether their oven is new of 40 years old.
