Actually, I think it's a little subversive on his part - lol!! Since he knows that when Bourdain is on I'm virtually incommunicado, he figures that if I can watch the show whenever I want, the times the show is on becomes a bit more flexible - lol!!

But the point is He thought the process through. My SO wouldn't think about that as a gift unless he saw it. He wouldn't ever think "Hey she loves Bourdain, I think I will get her a DVD of his show." That's where you have a gem.

Yes - he is a gem.

I think a lot of it is that we're both big-time movie fans - particularly the old classics, mystery, & horror (classic horror - not the current gore fests). Husband has about 2,000 CD's, & we easily have well over 1,000 DVD's at this point. And we're both bigtime reading/book fans too. Our house looks like a used bookshop - lol!!

Other great gifts he's given me have been all the "Midsomer Murders" currently out on DVD (Sets 1-8), since he knows I'm a BIG fan of that series, along with other Brit murder series. He definitely does keep in tune with what I like, but I do the same for him as well.

Bourdain Mini-Marathon Today at Noon

Just a heads up. Today (Sunday the 19th) at noon (in about 10 minutes) The Travel Channel is running a Bourdain (& Zimmern) mini-marathon up until around 11 p.m.!!

The noon episode will be the recent 2-hr. Bourdain/Zimmern special on NY, followed by - if I remember correctly - Shanghai, Beirut, Peru, Texas, Malaysia (I think), & other oldies but goodies.

After discovering this, I "decided" that it's just too hot out to do any yard work today.

Yet Another Bourdain Windfall!!

Dear husband had told me that I still had some anniversary gifts arriving that had been on backorder, & they arrived yesterday.

I'm now the proud owner of A Cook's Tour, along with the other two Bourdain novels (I already have the 3rd) - The Bobby Gold Stories & Gone Bamboo. Last but not least, a DVD "Decoding Ferran Adria - A Film About the Leader of the Spanish Culinary Revolution - Hosted by Anthony Bourdain".

Now I'm completely inundated with Bourdain . Husband definitely outdid himself. Guess I'll have to pull out my copy (which husband also bought me) of The Les Halles Cookbook & whip something up from it sometime soon.

Bourdain Marathon Today!

For any interested parties who might be kicking around home today (Labor Day), The Travel Channel is having an all-day Anthony Bourdain marathon starting at 9 a.m. & running till 8 p.m. They'll then show a new Bourdain episode at the usual Monday night time of 10 p.m.

Whew - looks like I'm going to be doing a lot of DVD burning today - lol!!

Yet another one of those thin top chefs. I can't imagine how he does it. He even likes his booze, but it never goes to fat.

How was the Kitchen Confidential TV series, Breezy????

I'm so in lust with Mr. Bourdain--due to his extraordinary talents as a writer more than anything else. I've read Kitchen Confidential countless times, and I swear his high-energy, testosterone-laden prose never fails to give me a kickass endorphin buzz.
I just love the man. (Even moreso since I heard his story about the loss of his virginity and the song "99 Tears" on NPR...I don't think I can post links, but Bourdain fans can easily google to find it.)

As for his bony frame, I think he's just genetically endowed with a crazy-fast metabolism. There's really no other explanation....

That's interesting. Because didn't he disparage Mr. Adria's cooking in Kitchen Confidential, calling it "that foam guy's sh*t"??

Has he had a change of heart?

(btw, speaking of Ferran Adria and his ilk, Peter Sagal's new book, The Book of Vice: Very Naughty Things and How to Do Them, has a chapter on the indulgences of high-end dining. He describes an endless tasting menu in the restaurant of a chef who rides the "molecular gastronomy" bandwagon. It's very very funny. Though the true foodie may not relate to his desire for a greasy, mass-produced roast beef hoagie halfway through the meal, anyone who understands Anthony Bourdain's contention that "food is the new porn" will not be able to suppress at least a few belly laughs while reading Sagal's account.)

Today Antony was in own signing his book. He spoke, mainly answerd question for about half an hour and then sign autografs. I did not buy a book, mostly because I do not have money for this kind of stuff right now. He doesn't like vegetarians and not impressed with RR. Thouse are my words, his words were much stronger. Now i like him even beter.
