I received my first cookbook when I was six from my favourite aunt and promptly made chocolate chip cookies. It was a Betty Crocker book.

The "American Woman's Cook Book", edited by Ruth Berolzheimer, published for the Culinary Arts Institute in 1939. Gives some insight into the good and bad of how things used to be in my younger years.

I have a copy of that book. I use it occasionally. I prefer Fannie Farmer, though. But usually reach for The Joy Of Cooking first when looking for traditional recipes like that.

We use Fannie Farmers book often but find that things like rendering goose fat are not discussed in many of the more recent cook books.
