Alternatives to using a Fat/Gravy Separator?

I understand that, if you "float" a couple of slices of bread on top, the bread will absorb the fat and leave you with just the stock/broth.


Paper towels work as well. I used some the other night on a pot of soup.
 
I am not sure if all lettuce leaves are created equal though Andy. Iceburg is the one I have heard of being used.

I'll keep that in mind. We don't usually keep iceburg around. It would seem that all you need from a lettuce leaf is that it is cold from the fridge to be effective.
