I grow my own garlic, and use it in everything but the ice cream.

I make some pickled garlic every year, and when I do that, I have to peel several pounds. The easiest way to peel for me is to drop the cloves in boiling water for 30 seconds or so. The cloves pop right out of the peels. You can put them in the microwave for a few seconds, as well, but I am so scatterbrained that I leave them in too long, and then I have popped garlic all over the inside of the nuker.

The pickled garlic is delicious, by the way. The cloves are sweet, the brine is salty and tart, and I put a little hot pepper in, too.

We haven't used a press or other garlic specific tool since we discovered the microplane.

I have both. The Garlic press (your picture) works good to get very small garlic pieces (a micro plane works too). the Twister works great for a bit larger grind. My only complaint is that its hard to get the garlic out. The oils from the garlic seem to make the garlic stick to the twister. But it works great to chop up the garlic.
