This isn't the first time I've heard of problems from using them on the grill. I never have used mine anywhere but the oven. For the grill, I use my instant read Thermapen.

I was at Sur La Table and saw it with the store label on it and picked one up because I didn't want to be without. I'm sure it will do the job.
