our pigtail is made of metal and bought many years ago.......and it's about 18inches long so it has a long reach........

I have the set one short and one long. I use them mostly for the grill/BBQ cooking.

you know, the number one gadgets that `i have in my kitchen that `i'm grateful for are the high-heat resistant spatulas.......my sister-in-law made fun of me for buying them until `i bought her one ``(and that's when they were like $8bucks a pop``````````````never ever heard her be derivisive again.......she loves them, too........

\\Who's opening, Dragnlaw??? And who/what is the utensil```````:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I am sweetie... come early or it will be all gone!

OK, well, that's not true. I make my own. ..and yeah, it's from a kit but it's the only way I can afford my 'habit'

`i resemble that remark......well hopefully not the picture...too cute.......dragnlaw.........are you a lawyer by any chance......?

`Our daughter and son-in-law are........talk about penitance........

Oh, you people just made my Amazon order bigger. Paint scraper--never thought of that, Rock Lobster! And a pigtail turner, and the Oxo mandoline. Maybe I shouldn't visit this site any more.

I have a Kuradori Mandolin - I think it is available in the States, there is a patent nbr for US, UK. Probably more pricey than the OXO but I quite like it.

Has a case for the blades and the safety handle also becomes a lemon juicer. Like all mandolins - very sharp... my little finger does not match shape with the rest of my digits, missed the bone but came close! :D

I also really like the Apple Slicer/Corer by Kuradori - again, very sharp and I think the slices are thinner than other corers, which I like.

Since I bought the pigtail turner, I rarely use tongs. The pressure of squeezing tongs really hurts some days, plus it compresses the food, especially items that have been breaded.

Gotcha. So far, I only have arthritis in my knee. Good to know if it wanders to my hands.

LOL sounds like this thread has changed from

"What could we not live without?"

to

"What do we now desperately want" (not need - want).

de acueredo.......`i totally agree.....`i know that `i'm going to order or buy the mandolin and hopefully people are not going to enjoy the extra "protein"..........`i am not good with things sharp except humor........then `i'm halfway there........`````````````````````````````````:)

you are too funny, SPGrass....have to ask.......where does the term sparrow grass originate from? truly `i really want to know........never heard of it before.......:) obviously it doesn't grow in TX or is that well-known.........definitely not in `oman......or the middle east.......

oh, my........`i hope that you're right....my arthritis has moved from my thumb/forefinger to my feet......`````i know it could be worse so......no complaints here.........do go see a specialist if you can afford one......they can help a lot........just don't take any opioids if you can avoid them.....`i can tell you from experience that the pain just gets worse......`i've only had one aspirin in the last 6 months........`i just don't want to rely on them..........

expatgirl, sparrowgrass is an old name for asparagus. My favorite veggie. I have been using that 'handle' on the web for 20 years now. :) My two acre 'ranch' in the Ozarks is 'Sparrowgrass Hill'. I have a big asparagus bed, plenty of wild plants, and will be planting another row in the spring.
