Taking apart cocktail shaker

I couldn't get the top off, tried putting it in the freezer, that didn't work. Finally hot water did. But the piece at the very top covering the strainer won't come off no matter what I do. HELP! Anybody know a technique?

You need to get just the very top hot while the bottom stays cool. I would stick the bottom part in cold water and put something hot just on the top. Maybe a rag soaked in very hot water or something. It should come apart (with some work probably) after that.

Thanks, I'll try that. And does anybody know of one with a less problematic design? I'm not sure I want to put up with this problem over and over.

The Boston shaker consists of two pieces. One is metal and the other is usually wither metal or glass. You tap it on the side of the counter to break the seal and open it. You then need a strainer in addition to the shaker, unless you get good at using the shaker as its own strainer which can be done, but takes some practice.
