This came in a box of stuff from an estate sale and I think it might be a cooking gadget but I am not sure.
It is about 8" in overall length, Cone is 4" x 2" and made of stainless steel.
No name or markings on it.
Thanks Marty

I asked my neighbor that is a nurse what it was and she had no idea.

First thing I thought of was a medical toy.

But have been about medicine for 28 years and never saw anything like it..

Sorta looks like it could press a croquet or quinelle.

Just a wild guess.

But if it has anything to do with gynecology, I dont want to know about it.

Marty-23....Welcome to DC!

Maybe if you could investigate who the original owner was through the estate. That may give you some leads. Also were there other items in the box that may offer clues??

Then again. Hey Everybody!!! Let's play, Guess What's this a Photograph of???

Let the game begin....

My gut is telling me to has nothing to do with cooking, but who knows. I think it could make a pretty fun mold for things maybe.

okay uncle bob

where's clive (is that his name) when you need him?

this is a family heirloom, I have disproved what it is said to have been..Family lore has it as a native american storyteller and I am 100% sure it is NOT. Have had guesses it is South American, possibly from Peru. Does any one have any guesses what country/culture this is from? I have photos of other views of this creature if that would help. It may be very old.

Hi Beth. I don't know what that is, but it is very cool looking. For this thread though, I think we need to only concentrate on the OP's photo. Please feel free to start a new thread with your photo or post this in the "Guess What's this a Photograph of" thread.

I did have an idea of what it could be from the sale, but did not want to give it away at first and influence the answers.
Isley's ice cream scoop?
I thought they used a long pointed spoon or paddle for their tall cones and could not find any info on this.
A google search did not help and yahoo returned mostly porn sites,
Thanks, Marty

So thats what it is??? An Ice cream Scoop???

When you close it up, does the supposed mould part come together to form a whole? I see the handles have got protrusions to stop you being able to squash them together.
Have you tried moulding anything to see if the shape brings anything to mind?

There's something about the quality of the metal and the spring that suggests it isn't to do with food.

It almost has the quality of a medical instrument.
The cone half's come together before the protrusions meet.

Well, the nearest I can come to in Google images is a speculum or proctoscope. Sorry about that. But I guess your nurse friend will have seen those. Maybe these are an older design type.

I am really thinking this is NOT a food related item. I could hazard a few guesses but will not as this they are not to "PG" Rated.

Lemme just say, I wouldn't go scooping food with it just yet. lol, gotta figure tis out!

LOL, you took the words right out of my mouth. But, I suppose that you could use it to maybe serve shredded pork butt and it would be close enough to what I'm thinking the original purpose was for.

metal/glass tool?

That looks like it could be used in glass blowing or metal working (small scale foundry type apps). It doesn't appear to have seen any heavy use though. Looks like you could use it to pick up a crucible. I'm interested if anyone has any idea what it is.

I know what this is!

I've seen them all over South America in the banana plantations. They are used to form green bananas on their familiar shape with tapered ends. Workers go from banana tree to banana tree clamping onto the end of every banana to shape it so it will grow into the familiar fruit we know and love.

I win!
