i cook alot on the smoker
and i normaly cook the 18 to 25 lbs briskets and ribs looking for the gear that can flip and turn and baste the beasts

My DH has a set of super heavy duty grill tool from "Charmglow". Might Google the name and see if you can find it locally. IDK where we got them last year, but they come with a canvas storage "bag".

I believe it was Home Depot.

When a hunk of meat is that big, or I am smoking or grilling a beer butt chicken, I use heat-proof gloves. No utensil is going to turn a piece of meat that weighs 25 lbs.

Basting just requires a baster - lbs. don't really matter.

and thats what i been using is gloves
not really heat resistant but the grill temp is only around 200 to 250

Sorry I am late to this thread. But for sturdy well made utensils, I vote for the HD ones made by Dexter Russell for the restaurant trade.

See the one on the right? These are available in much longer sizes and they are solid like a rock. You might need two though.

I find these forks handy also. They come in sizes from 12 inch up to 22" or so. They are heavy heavy forged steel. You can't beat um with a stick!

Interesting how the gloves above would do in the wash. If they can survive the washing machine, they seem like a great deal!
i have "ove" gloves and they wash fine. they also have the kevlar. i just found this while surfing and was thinking of buying them.
