I never use soap on my cast iron. I either wipe it down with a wet paper towel or, most often, if it sits on the stove and the cooking residue sits in the pan while I eat, I fill the pan about half way with water and turn on the heat until it boils. Then I dump the water out and scrub the pan with a paper towel (using oven mitts of course!) Then I let it dry and rub with a oily paper towel. Clean as a whistle and no soap used!
