I have a couple of 2½" paring knives, a 3½" one, and a 6" chef that I use as a light duty/utility knife. Those ones all live in the block on the counter (along with my 8" chef and bread knife). I also have a 10" chef and a 5" boning knife that don't fit in the block, but have edge guards and reside in the front of the utensil drawer. There are a few other knives lost in drawers, but none is worth digging out.

"Office knife" comes from the French "couteau d'office" which is the name for this small multi-purpose knife - also called a "couteau universel". Nothing to do with the English word "office" which translates into French as "bureau"

bollocks, i'm into nit pickng today.

a bureau is, as far as what my english educated free irish dad taught ne was a desk, as in a piece of furniture.

after looking it up, i realize how the French took license with the word, and have made it to mean the office in which a bureau (desk) is used.

so, in the end, it's as andy said, a pairing of sorts, lol.
