Really good sharpening videos
Here.
Don't miss #14 The three stones are all DMT DiaSharps. The strop is (most likely) chromium oxide on leather. The angle is set by the wooden base block and all strokes are accomplished with the blade held parallel to Mother Earth. Notice how little downward pressure is applied. Excellent, excellent, and more excellent!!!!!

Vassili knows what he's doing. Make sure to check out his hair-whittling video too!

it was really interesting, until about the 5th video. but #14 is very cool.
hmmm, that comes from an interesting looking forum. i've heard that their three admins are a very tall woman from the carolinas, an atheist guy from massachusetts, and a mexican woman that hates yoga. ![]() |

Okay, Vassili has been upgraded in my book from "highly-competent" to "genius". I cut a block of basswood at 15 degrees as he specified. I ran my Tosagata santoku through the gamut of coarse DMT DiaSharp and 500, 1000, and 2000 grit Shapton GlassStones. I finished up with my chromium oxide-loaded strop, and whittled a hair. Whittled a freakin' hair! Just like in the videos!
