How to can banana peppers?

I am planning on canning banana peppers today. I am canning as I get a few. I don't want to can them in huge supplies since I am the only one to eat them. I also don't want them to go bad while I am waiting for the others to be ready.
I really just need something with vinegar, possibly garlic and of course water. but how exactly do I do this from start to finish?
The one recipe i seen called for canning salt and I have no idea what that is and can I sub anything for that?
