I forgot whose recipe it was, and the exact name but, My son had a pasta dish at his gf's house which primarily consisted of pasta with sauce made out of peanut butter, rice wine, soy sauce ( and im sure a few other things).

Over the years, I know there is a similar recipe that everyone liked here that was posted, but for the life of me can't remember.

But im sure some of you wise folks will steer me in the right direction,

Thanks in advance

I think you're referring to the Dragon Lady's Sesame Noodles.

Dragon Lady Kitchen blog: SESAME NOODLES

I think you're right, thanks!.

I usually make it using sesame paste
My Aunt makes it with peanut butter
And apparently, my sons gf's mom does the same.
But I did remember this recipe floating around. It always makes its appearance periodically.

In my search I found a recipe from TenSpeed which actually sounds very similar to what my sone described .

Sesame Peanut Noodles
Sesame Peanut Noodles

10 oz. angel hair pasta
1 cup shredded cabbage
1 cup cucumber, seeded and cut in julienne strips

6 Tbsp. soy sauce
4 Tbsp. red wine vinegar
6 Tbsp. peanut butter
2 Tbsp. sugar

2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1/2 cups scallions, chopped
chili peppers or cayenne to taste
1 Tbsp. minced fresh ginger
2 tsp. minced garlic

2 Tbsp. sesame oil
1/3 cup chopped roasted peanuts

-Cook pasta, rinse and drain
-Saute garlic, ginger, peppers, and scallions in vegetable oil
-Stir in the soy sauce mixture, cook until peanut butter is dissolved, remove from heat. Sprinkle the shredded cabbage and cucumber over the noodles, then top with the soy sauce/scallion mix. Add peanuts and sesame oil, and toss.

I figured that out after I read it. I never made it and just had a vague memory of the ingredients. And when I remember what my aunt had done in the past, I assumed there would be some similarities. But at least now I don't have to go to sleep tossing and turning trying to figure out which recipe I was thinking about.

That also sounds like a good recipe. I can't abide peanut butter though so I'd use sesame paste or oil. I like the idea of cabbage and cucumber.:yum:

Can anyone tell me if hot chili garlic paste is an acceptable substitute for hot chili oil?

Also, would it be a 1 for 1 substitution?

Thanks,

B

Aunt Bea - simple answer... yes but no.

an oil and a paste? How is it being incorporated?

I personally find the oil much more intense and hits the taste buds immediately.
Whereas a paste has more flavours and is spread throughout the other ingredients.

But again... how is it being used?
