How sad. My heart aches for the history of the place and all who love it.
Well, they think they have saved most of the building. They got all the relics and artwork out. The statues that were near the spire were removed a few days ago for refurbishing. Two of the three big stained glass windows seem to be fine. The spire is apparently the great loss.
The Catholic Church is arguably the wealthiest organization in the entire world. That Norte Dame burned is tragic, certainly, but nobody was injured or killed, and they saved that thorny crown.
I say, let the Church pay for its own repairs and restoration, and those French billionaires and their $300 donations? Surely there are some homeless and sick people in France who could benefit from that money a lot more?
Yes, I know.a lot of people, not just millionaires
France has universal health care, so I don't think that's much of a problem. I don't know anything about their homeless situation. Besides, who's to say they don't want already do that? Tho is a way of soothing people in a highly visible situation that is very upsetting to many people around the world, not just the French. The Catholic Church is arguably the wealthiest organization in the entire world. It's not just a building - it's an irreplaceable piece of of history and an architectural jewel. I'm not a religious person at all, but I appreciate the art and history it represents.Actually, one firefighter was seriously injured. But, while the damage to the cathedral saddens me, it's just a building. I had a similar reaction when I heard about the huge donations by the billionaires. There are so many people in need and our planet is practically on fire. I won't go on because it could be considered political.

Well, I disagree. You can't recreate the sensation of entering into a building like that and experiencing the beauty of the windows with recordings and photographs.I meant it's just a thing. I didn't mean that it's just any old building. Yes, it's an architectural gem, but it's still just a thing. It's so well documented, recorded, photographed, that even if it wasn't repaired, it wouldn't be a complete loss.
And I'll stop now.
