When my sons and I used to go to Maggie Valley, we'd stop at a little place right off I-40 on the east side of Asheville (it's not there anymore ; but - they made the most awesome apple fritters. About the size of a baseball, I'm not sure if it was a yeast dough or not, with chunks of apple, cinnamon, and like a 'glazed donut' glaze. To DIE for!
