......................Helmets !!

Super bowl Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was hurt in a motorcycle accident recently, and he is being fined for not wearing a crash helmet. or having a valid motorcycle license.
So.......................
1. When the Steelers QB is on the field, he DOES wear his helmet. What's different about the inside of his, and all other Quarterback's helmets, from helmets worn by players at all the other positions?
2. Name the former NHL pro who had the distinction of being the last player allowed to play without a helmet.
3. Guitarist Mark Knopfler of the Rock Group "Dire Straits" was injured in a 2003 motorcycle accident. What famous Blues / Rock Guitarist rode his last ride helmet-less on a motorcycle?
(hint; he was the first of two fellow band members to die this way...)
4. Another helmet-less rider, this time a famous explorer and writer, did the question three thing earlier in the twentieth century, on a British back road. Name him.
(hint; a film about his earlier adventures was an Oscar winner for best picture.)
5. Jerome Cavanaugh, former mayor of Detroit, cruelly quipped that this illustrious American politician "played football too long without a helmet". Who was he referring to; did that person really play "football without a helmet"?
6. What year did batting helmets become mandatory for Major League Baseball?
7. Ray Chapman of the 1920 New York Yankees is the only man to die from injuries suffered while playing major league baseball; what was his injury?
8. The American Film Institute says this movie villain is the #3 greatest bad guy of all time. His helmet was inspired by the "Kabuto" of the Japanese Samurai. Who was he ?

1. It contains a transmitter to enable him to get and discuss plays with the coaching staff.
2. Craig MacTavish, in the 1996-97 season.
3. Duane Allman (the Allman Brothers Band) died on Oct. 29, 1971. A year later, Bassist Berry Oakley died in the same way, just a few blocks up the street from the intersection where Duane was killed.
4. Thomas Edward Lawrence, but I'll accept his better-known name, Lawrence of Arabia.
5. President Gerald Ford. When Ford played football for the undefeated University of Michigan teams in 1932 and 1933, he did indeed play without a helmet. (Helmets were not required for college players.)
6. 1971, although they were in voluntary use for years before that.
7. He was hit in the head with a pitch, and died 12 hours later.
8. Darth Vader
