I used to visit a local Teriyaki joint quite frequently before they closed down. Aside from great Tonkatsu, they also had a delicious salad dressing I've never been able to duplicate (or find something similiar), so I'm hoping what short description I can provide might allow someone to offer up a guess as to what it could be, or something similar.

It was straight white with some sort of small black seed, with a consistency like bottled ranch (maybe a bit thicker). For taste, I can really describe it other than it has a very strong/sharp sweet spin to it.

Sounds like Poppy Seed Dressing
  • 1 tsp. Honey
  • 1/2 tsp. Dry mustard
  • 1/2 tsp. Paprika
  • 1/4 tsp. Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Poppy seeds
  • Dash Ground Ginger
  • 1/4 c. Orange juice
  • 1/4 c. Mayonnaise
It's delicious if you top your salad with orange mandarin slices and sliced roasted almonds. Enjoy!

I agree that since it was a Japanese restaurant that it was probably a miso dressing. If you google it, you'll find lots of variations but most include miso/rice vinegar.

Not sure what would make it thick like ranch dressing.
