Have purchased an expensive Ice Cream maker which works well but I am not sure of one aspect of preparation. I am looking for someone with experience to direct me as to ...when it is done.... I cannot figure out what consistency the finished product should be as mostly it is too soft but have left it working too long and it about stopped the machine. All instructions are vague in this area. Please help.

When finished, your ice cream will probably be quite soft. At this point, you need to remove it to a container and let it "season" in the freezer for about 4 hours to set up properly.

Bob, remember the old (maybe they still sell them  ) Dairy Queen soft ice cream cones?? That's the consistency I go for and it will 'tighten' up in the freezer. Hope that helps.

It will be still be soft when the machine is done

churning. You need to put it in the freezer for at least 2 hours to harden.
