Just in case anyone cares about this, miss America was in jeopardy of losing her crown due to cocaine use. Donald Trump, who owns the pageant apparently, excused her and let her retain her crown if she goes to rehab according to strict guidelines. Does anyone else think he made a mistake allowing her to continue on? Miss America is suppose to be a role model for young women. I hate this pageant regardless, but to let her continue on is just ridiculous. Thoughts?

I think she's Miss USA. I'm not a fan of these contests, never have been really, but I think that the Miss America contest aspires to be slightly more, er, classy:

Owing to the lack of a talent competition and the relative lack of emphasis on an interview, the perception of the Miss USA contest is that it is unapologetically about looks and sexual attractiveness, whereas the Miss America pageant has increasingly attempted to focus on scholarship, achievement, and social service in an effort to counter criticism of beauty contests.

That said, maybe the Donald was in a forgiving mood after his private meeting with the young woman.:LOL:

There are two reasons why he kept her and they are located just below her neck. Trump is a marketing genius. He has taken a complete non-story and has gotten all the news stations to keep talking about it for a week now. Next we will hear about her recovery and she will start doing the talk show circuit where Rosey will drool over her like a piece of fresh meat all the while promoting Trumps brand at no charge to him...brilliant. And the American people will suck it up like a baby on a teat.

I did not hear anything about cocaine use. What I read said that she was drinking underage and that is why she was in jeopardy of losing her crown. If it was underage drinking then I think the Donald made the right choice. She made a mistake and she is going to counseling for it. Everyone makes mistakes and I think it is important for role models, like this young woman, to be able to make them as well. it is what you do after the mistake that shows your true character. She was caught drinking while she was a few month short of her 21st birthday. It was against the law, but it was not the worst thing in the world.

Now if it really was cocaine like Amber said then I would change my tune.

Unfortunately I have this useless info in my head due to CNN and Fox News, but they did a drug test, possibly with her hair and it tested positive for cocaine.

Gotta agree in essence with JDP. This was a great way to get some interest in a contest that is kind of becoming a bit dated in my opinion.

It is largely a public relations gimmic in my estimation.

A quick google shows that several news sources claim not only drinking but failing a drug test for cocaine. There are also allegations from many sources regarding various sexual escapades and general irresponsibility with regard to the duties of Miss USA -- whatever that means. One source I found includes all this info, but I can't link you to it here because it's topped with an extremely revealing photo of the young woman that seems more appropriate for a soft-core porn site.

Interesting that the Donald fired the 2002 Miss Universe for the egregious act of....failing to show for publicity shots. Speaking of publicity, I agree with the poster who said it's all about Trump, dubbed today in the Los Angeles Times, as the master of promotion.

I don't know if is right or wrong that Miss America retains her crown. Donald Trump is putting her in rehab and she will still be able to stay in the same hotel as before.

I agree that this whole Miss America, Miss USA junk is overrated. Trump is done with his show and he just wants to get recognized in another way. ( Like the man needs any more money...how about those starving, abused children that no aside from Angelina and Brad care about.) I also agree that it is nothing more than a looks competition and the "looks" that they are looking at definatley are not in the facial area. ( Why else would they have a bikini contest? ) I also say if it was just alcohol, give her a second chance and we'll see if she's going to change. Cocaine on the other hand is a different story. That is a hard-core drug that can kill you on one time of getting high. I know alcohol could do the same but it is not even close to as common as cocaine. I suppose it also depends on what is in her contract.
Ok , I am done with my rant...I think I am just sick of hearing about it so much on TV, the computer, the newpaper...
