Lemon grass

Jennyemma, you inspired me! I still have lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves in my freezer, thanks to you. But the Park Seed Co. had lemongrass seeds in their catalog this year. I was thinking of making this a personal message, but wanted everyone to know that you can grow some interesting things if you just try. It will probably be a year or so (judging from growing it in Hawaii and in Florida) before it is edible. We have had some yummy curries and soups thanks to you, and if you can grow it in Mass, sure as heck I can in IL.

Glad I did!

I had 2 huge plants last year and split them and ended up harvesting about 150 stalks. Smaller than the ones you get in the store but useful nonetheless.

Since my freezer is full I didn't grow any this year and I sort of regret it because the plants are big, bushy and beautiful.

And easy to grow!

GOOD LUCK!

Can you winterize lemongrass? I am just sick of putting plants inside the house during winter...

Plants I bring in die upon crossing the threshold, so I don't know.

They do like it hot, though, so if you keep your house cool, they may not do that well.

Plus, they are pretty big, with deep roots.
