Food in Children's Literature

I am going to be doing an after school cooking club when we go back to school in Sept. Being the librarian, I'd like to incorporate foods from books into it...."Storybook Kitchen." So, I'm calling on all of you to search your brains and send me ideas.

I have a lot already and some examples include:


Winnie-the-Pooh-honey
The Tale of Peter Rabbit-salad
Chicken Soup with Rice-soup
Little Black Sambo-pancakes, homemade butter
The American Girls series-foods from different eras


I'm sure there are many that I have not remembered, so please post
whatever you can think of even if you think I may have thought of it.
This is greatly appreciated!
We'll read an excerpt from the book and then cook, incorporating
cooking skills, terms, techniques, nutrition, etc. and then make our
own cookbook. I can't wait!

The Secret Garden -- Cornish Pasties. Easier than it sounds if you use refridgerated pie crusts and a pre made beef stew as filler.

A curry can be either The Little Princess or A Secret Garden, since both involve parents who were in India. To keep it simple, you can get some chutney, crackers, and cream cheese and make a snack.
