How to clean downdraft vent of cooktop?

A friend has a 15 yr old (guess)Jenn Aire cook top w/ downdraft vent. How do we clean that horribly greasy dirty greasy vent? I want to pull it out and replace but . . . .

I've never had to clean one but the first thing I'd do is check out the owner's manual. If It was not available, I'd check the company's website-customer service section for an online copy.

If none of that helps, I'd contact the company by phone or email for assistance.
