I need some deep insight on a question I have

Why is it when you look in the cup part of a spoon you are upside down...and when you look in the back of the spoon you are right side up? I don't remember ever seeing this addressed here.

It's not exactly a cooking question, but has to do with the way the light is reflected back from the curved surface of the spoon.
 
One of those things I used to wonder about as a kid, but have long since quit thinking about. Yes, I learned about concave and convex, but 2 + 2 never seemed to equal four to me. I'll guess I'll have to start thinking about it again; after all, I have nothing better to do (haha).
 
So if Alice went through a convex mirror, would she be inside out? Gross, eh?
