I just purchased some chicken, and was browning it in some butter. I added a piece I found in refrigerator and the pot started smelling sour so I took all of the chicken out. The piece I added from my refrigerator smelled sour, so I threw it away, tossed out the butter, washed the pan, added new butter, put the other pieces of chicken back in and they smell fine but should I just throw those away as well?

please don't put it on my plate . . .

safer is better than sorrier - toss it.

Waste not want not. Feed some to your spouse. If there is no adverse reaction, go ahead and let everyone else have some.
