Caramel candy

I can't seem to find a recipe for caramel candy, you know, like the little squares that you have to unwrap if you want to make caramel apples. I have seen lots of recipes for caramel sauce but not candy. It seems like you could reduce a sauce to eventually get the candy but then again it would probably get a burnt flavor before it got to the thick chewy candy stage. Anyone got a recipe for the candy?
