I love eating fish at restaurants but do not often cook fish at home as no one else in the household likes it. However I would like to start cooking fish 2/3 times a week to eat more healthily and hopefully convert some of the family.

I am looking to buy a couple of cookbooks dedicated to fish but need your advice. What I am looking for is a book that has

Plenty of current recipes

Contains all types of fish - from shrimps to cod to sea bream to mussels

I also am a big fan of illustrations. I like to see what the end product should look like (this is probably the greatest criteria)

What books do you suggest?

Hi and welcome to DC :)

I don't have very many books on just one type of food, but after doing some research, I just might buy this one: http://www.amazon.com/Fish-Complete-Guide-Buying-Cooking/dp/0028631528/ref=cm_lmf_tit_32

The author, Mark Bittman, is a well-known chef and author. He writes for the New York Times and is executive editor of Cooks Illustrated, which I love. I don't know if it has good illustrations, but you can ask on Amazon. It has very good reviews there.

I would just suggest that you stay away from tilapia. Most of it comes from China and is usually contaminated with chemicals that are illegal to use in the United States. If you are interested in seafood sustainability, check out the Seafood Watch website for information on good and not so good choices: http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/seafoodwatch.aspx

Hope this helps.

Rick Moonen, "Fish Without a Doubt:The Cook's Essential Companion". Rick specializes in seafood. Some of the Cajun/Creole chefs also do a bit of seafood.
