Question about a term... (mise en place)

this isn't spelled correctly, I know but phonetically it sounds like: mizen plass. I think it means "chopped in pieces of the same size." Am I on the right track?

Well, I made the cake-it turns out that it's called "pastiera"-an Easter treat. It does taste like what I remember from Venice, but the spelt grain does stay chewy, sort of a chopped walnut texture....

I went to Venice, Italy in the spring of this year and every morning had this wonderful pastry-almost custard-like, or cream pie-ish(:smile:) but firmer, like cake, too. I didn't see it anywhere but...
