I'm inviting my sister and BIL over for a meal and plan on making a quiche for dinner (salad as a side most likely).

I need inspiration for dessert ideas, and would love to hear what you suggest :chef:

Thanks in advance :)

How about this? It's from Martha Stewart Livings Dec. 2006 issue.

Orange Yogurt Cake

Preheat oven to 350 deg.
Butter an 8 inch round cake pan

1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. baking soda
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup plain whole milk yogurt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. grated orange zest plus 1 tbsp. orange juice
1 large egg
1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
2 large oranges (1 zested into thin strips and both peeled and segmented)
1 tbsp sugar.

1. Stir together all ingredients except orange segments and 1 tbsp sugar. Pour into prepared pan and bake until a cake tester comes out clean. About 25 mins. Let cool on a wire rack.

2. Place zest strips in a bowl with orange segments. Toss with 1 tbsp sugar. Garnish cake with some of the segments, serve slices of cake with some of the rest. Dust the cake with confectioners sugar.

I made this for friends recently, and they loved it. It's a nice light dessert.

Well, since the meal is such a light one, there will be room for a rich dessert!

How about Marge's Brownies (also called "Symphony Brownies")?

Lee

Marge’s Brownies

Simple ingredients, tricky to cook and cut.

2 boxes Ghiradelli brownie mix (any brownie mix will do, but this is the best)

3 Symphony bars (I use the toffee ones)

Mix the batches of brownies. I do them in separate bowls, but if you are a good eye-balller, you can mix them in one bowl.

Lay half the batter into a buttered 13 x 9 pan (glass works well). Place the three candy bars on top of the batter –they just fit.

Cover the candy bars with the other half of the brownie batter.

Bake at 350 degrees for at least an hour and 10 minutes. Keep testing after that, if necessary. You have to make sure that the brownies are cooked thoroughly, but when testing them, remember that the chocolate candy is in there, so be careful where you stick your toothpick.

Cool in the pan THOROUGHLY, at least 2 hours, before attempting to cut the brownies. If you don’t wait long enough, the chocolate will ooze out. If you wait too long, say overnight, the candy will harden and the brownies will be difficult to cut.

Everyone wants this recipe!

since you're doing a lite lunch I'd do something fruity for dessert... maybe a peach cobbler??

Oh, so many good ideas here!! How to choose??? There's only one thing for it: more dinner parties

I like the idea of the ones I can make in advance, so that I can have a bit less stress on the day. It's hard to get anything done in a hurry with a 19 month old child, so most of the ideas here sound ideal.

Keep the ideas coming! :)
