Heading to Vegas for a reunion with old childhood friends in a few weeks. Should be seven or eight of us. I have never been there and am looking forward to eating. Lots. Just wondering if anybody has hany suggestions for places to try for a bunch of middle aged guys, who for the most part, I think are looking for causal dining, drinks, upbeat atmosphere, value, etc....

I think I need new glasses. I read the title as "Vegan Restaurants"

I've also never been to Vegas. There are a lot of famous chef restaurants there now. Probably top dollar though.

Have a great time there!

Yeah. I have been looking around and there are so many to choose from my head is spinning. I don't mind spending a bit. At least once, or twice. It would be a shame to miss an opportunity when I am right there. But I can be more satisfied with a good meal at a great value. When you spend a pile of cash on a meal you expect it to be good. lol. Not sure of how the trip is going to go. Haven't seen a few of these guys for over 10 years. May be a civilized affair or it may be a clown show. Not sure I want to spend a pile of money on a nice meal to have a couple of boneheads wreck it. It's been known to happen over the years with this bunch....

You can get a lot of "value" at those crazy all-you-can-eat buffets if you target the pricey stuff and eat 10 pounds of crab legs and 9 pounds of shrimp cocktail!

There are 10 zillion restaurants in Vegas but value isn't something I associate with them.

Personally I'd make reservations at one or two places that comes recommended & that has a good reputation even if its $$$ and then wing the rest of the eating.

Where are you staying?

Not sure where we will be staying. Plans are already made but I haven't asked yet. I am leaning towards a few good dinners and winging it the rest of the time like you suggested. I know it may be a bit of a challenge to come to an agreement when dealing with so many guys. Some guys are golfing, some will probably gamble, a few want to walk a lot. I figure if I do a bit of research I may be able to swing the food plans to suit my preference. It may be a bit of a challenge with all of the different plans, tastes, hangovers, etc. lol

A few of the guys are financially well off and unfortunately none of them are me.

When we were there the buffet at the Rio was fabulous.

And the daquris at the pool at the Luxor were also wonderful.

The coffee at Ceasers was ok, but the cocktail waitress seemed confused when I ordered that.

I see there's a Pink's in Lost Wages, Nevada now. If you like hot dogs, for lunch, check out Planet Hollywood, & have a dog at Pink's. It's not your average dog.

I lived in Las Vegas for seven years and still get back there from time to time. Lots and lots of options.

Any kind of food in particular you're looking for? Maybe a better question is this: is there any kind of food you want to avoid? :)

One of my favorites for groups was always Sergio's Italian Gardens. It's off the strip on Tropicana Ave. across from the Liberace Museum. The food is fantastic and they have a piano player Fri/Sat nights. It's definitely an old school kind of place, but they're used to people being a little loud and rambunctious.

I've heard the Rio buffet was quite good, and cost about $21.

Rock, you're going at a great time of the year. During the Summer it's about 120 degrees.

We went on a few day trips. There's lots to see, do & eat. Take lots of pics, & have a great time.

When we went to Vegas we stayed at The Venetian. There is a cafe there called The Grand Lux. Great food, reasonable prices, super service, nice bar. We ate there twice because it was so good.

We also ate at Emeril's Delmonico .. don't go there !!! It is not as advertised, it is super hyper major expensive, they request that you dress nicely ... we got there dressed very nicely and found a loud place full of people is shorts and cut-offs and sweatshirts, there is zero ambiance and the service was horrible. The steak was good but for $99.00 it should be. Oh and if you want anything extra like maybe a baked potato get ready to shell out additional $$ .. a HUGE letdown.

As mentioned above Bobby Flay's Mesa is good.

If you want a fun time go to the Excalibur and do the Tournament of Kings dinner. It's jousting while you eat .. lots of fun and something out of the ordinary.

Have a great time and let us know how it was !!

I also stayed at the Venetian the only time I was in Vegas. They had a great oyster bar...

A couple of other favorites.

Marrakesh. This is place where your group sits around a big table and eats from community dishes. They have belly dancers here, too. We took my father-in-law here for his 70th birthday.

Big Dog's Brewery. Several locations. Kind of a big sports bar and microbrewery. Another place where the locals go.

Note that most of these places are off the strip. I really find that's where most of the fun places are. The places on the strip can be a little stiff and expensive.

I agree with the above Rock.

We were there last month and stayed at the Golden Nugget downtown.
I like it there a lot for the hourly light shows at night....not to be missed at least once, and free. The Golden Nugget also has a spectacular pool for you to recover from the night before. Within walking distance is Main Street Station Casino Brewery Hotel - Triple 7 Restaurant and Microbrewery | MainStreetCasino.com
It's a fun place with reasonable prices, great food/brew, perfect for a bunch of old friends.
