Stone Cellars Merlot is from the Beringer vineyards and costs $5.99 here. It's pretty mellow for a Merlot and a bit lighter in color and that's what I like in a red wine. Very good! The vintage chart I refer to suggested that the 2001 varietal isn't ready yet but I took a chance and uncorked the bottle (I figure that's a good way to learn about wine) and it tastes great! I can't imagine the Merlot mellowing any further. Two thumbs up!
