Whipping Cream substitute

I have read some of the comments about whipping cream vs half & half. My recipe calls for whipping cream to be poured over a cake mix. Can I use the half & half I have on hand?

If you use half and half, you might want to fortify it with sweet butter at the rate of 1 tablespoon per cup.
