I have one of Rick Bayless's cookbooks. Many of the recipes in the book call for Epazote, a Mexican herb. I've been able to find it dried, but would like to try it fresh, which I've never found, even at the Mexican grocery stores here.

Has anyone ever tried growing Epazote? Being a Mexican herb, I'm assuming it like hot temps, which we get here, but I'm not sure if the climate here is to cool.

We sell it at the nursery I work at. Or at least I thought we did until I looked up pictures of it online, cause what we have called epazote is very different. It has tiny scale-like leaves like a juniper. Might be a different species, but it does have a weird gasoline or petroleum smell to it. It would be interesting to see how it tastes in a recipe.

I found epazote at a latino grocery store today. I don't think I could ever eat the stuff, it really stinks! Maybe when it's cooked in with everything else...
