Hello. I intend to consume ginger raw, and I am just wondering if I need to peel it.

I dont know how contaminated ginger usually is. I looked up the dirty dozen, it's not on the list, so it's a relief. But when I look up "clean" veggies, it's not listed either, so I dont know whether it's a good idea to peel it first.

I always wash it though.

Thanks.

If I'm going to slice it, I usually peel it. If I'm going to mince it or grate it, I usually don't bother.

ginger

Thanks for the answers.

So how contaminated is ginger, in general?

Definitely peel, if you're worried about contamination. I always peel mine. It freezes well, and I peel a large amount, then cut it into pieces of various sizes called for in recipes, then Foodsaver it in batches of 6 or 7 pieces.

I find that if you freeze ginger with the skin on, the skin rubs off easily once thawed.
