Pumpkin Carving Tips

It's almost pumpkin carving time again, and I just read some very cool pumpkin carving tips from another website (www.uncommongoods.com) and thought I'd share them. They were new to me!

Vegetable oil or petroleum jelly should be rubbed onto the fresh-cut edges of a pumpkin to delay shriveling after it is carved into a Halloween jack-o'-lantern. Premature shrinkage can also be prevented by soaking the pumpkin in water. Place it in something big enough to submerge it completely, and it will absorb some of the water that’s been lost. However, it will likely crack if set to soak longer than eight hours.

Here's a super quick way to have a carved pumpkin that is different...

Using a power drill, make holes in the pumpkin (after you've cleaned it out!) - I like making a spiral design, around the pumpkin. It looks really good if you do many, alternating the orange ones with the white ones going up your walk. These look great with votives in them.
