I hate to even mention it, but I think McDonald's should be on the list, especially if they're going to call it restaurants that changed the way America eats out.

We didn't have a Micky D's in the small town where I grew up, but whenever we would travel to one of the surrounding "big cities" we considered it a real treat to go and have a Big Mac and a shake.

If you want to take it back a step further, I would argue that the precursor to McDonald's was the drive-in restaurant, and the original was Kirby's Pig Stand in Dallas, which opened in 1921.

I miss HoJo's fried clam strips. Dang, they were good, so crunchy and chewy.

I agree with Steve, McD's should have made the list. Also, A&W.

cracker barrel

as a truck driver and one who travels the interstate system i give a lot of credit to craker barrel. it brings a taste of nostalgia to travelers far and wide with a same price guarantee (except ca and ny).

from rocking in chairs, to a game of old fashion checkers (sometimes in the rockers) to reviewing and selecting old time candies.
cb is something all travelers must check off thier list
