Saffron turn water green?

I've been cooking with saffron on and off for years. I just got some at Whole Foods and noticed that some of the threads become clear, devoid of any color. In addition, it turned the water green. Is this normal?

Hi, wattscukin. I've never seen the water turn any color other than saffron colored, sort of orange.

Threads becoming clear and the water turning green sounds wrong to me.

I concur with the others. Sounds like something else got mixed in.
