Using new oven

Hi all - I'm very new to this, very keen, and want to learn.

I have a new electric oven just installed that has a grill in the top.

The oven came with a large solid baking tray that was in place, full width across the oven just beneath the grill.

When using the oven to roast etc - should I keep the tray fitted beneath the grill to protect the grill element from splashes etc. The user manual makes no mention on this.

Would be very grateful for one of you more knowledeable people's help

Keep the pan out of the oven unless you are grilling. Otherwise, the spatters you are worried about will be on the bottom of the pan.
