I'm making smothered cabbage this year for Thanksgiving.
I'm going to fry up some onions and garlic with the cabbage until it wilts, add some broth and simmer it almost until it turns to mush. I want to add an earthy flavor to pair with the cabbage. I'm thinking I'll toss in some juniper berries and a few sprigs of thyme. The problem is, I'm completely sold on the idea, or even how much spice to use.
So, I'm just fishing for ideas. Anyone have suggestions or input?
I think the juniper berries sound great, I would use 5 to 10 berries. I am not a fan of thyme, one of the few herbs I do not like..
