I love me some hot and sour soup. My efforts to recreate it were poor to say the least until I tried Tyler Florence's version. It's mighty good.

By far the best one I've made is from Cook's Illustrated.
Hot And Sour Soup Recipe
Only thing is finding black vinegar, you pretty much have to find an Asian market to get some which isn't too difficult in a bigger city. I never tried the vinegar substitution though.
