Not sure if I got spelling right of this traditional Italian cake for Christmas, but I saw a brand made in BRAZIL for sale at the store today.

I thought this was strictly an eye-talian concoction. Anybody know?

Things do eventually travel everywhere - but yes, Panettone is Italian. I just received some from Viansa winery in Napa Valley, which I guess is kinda closer to being Italian - due to heritage an all - but Brazil?? Yea, I vote for "different" on that one.

I would place any money that the Brazilian version would somehow smuggle sweetened condensed milk into the recipe :P. They are bloody addicted to the stuff.

Haggis, I will have to go back and check. I may buy one because I found a recipe for French toast using this stuff that sounded good for Christmas morning.

Mudbug, it was a joke in reference to the fact that almost every Brazilian dessert uses sweetened condensed milk.

Panettone, such a simple yet delicious cake. Might cook one if my parents decide to do an Italian-themed cuisine Christmas day. That and some various kinds of sorbet.
