I'm trying to make a different taco from what we usually have in Texas..

I have corn tortillas and thin sliced marinated beef.

I have cabbage, radishes, onions and white cheese.

Peach salsa for topping.

But I think this is a Southern California dish, that is supposed to have a Sonoren Mexico White sauce, much like Tarter Sauce, like on fish tacos..

am I all wet here?

Thanks, Eric, Austin Tx.

Fish Taco White Sauce

  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, minced
  • 1 teaspoon minced capers
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
To make white sauce:

In a medium bowl, mix together yogurt and mayonnaise. Gradually stir in fresh lime juice until consistency is slightly runny. Season with jalapeno, capers, oregano, cumin, dill, and cayenne.

Next time go really different and do Asian style fish tacos

1/4 cup each mayo and sour cream
1/8-1/4 cup hoisin sauce
1/2-1tsp pickle relish
fresh daikon, cilantro, scallions and good lettuce

What is good lettuce? Do you mean crisp lettuce, romaine, iceberg, or a personal favorite of yours?
Or simply lettuce that is not brown and slimy?

LOL--don't know about being 'all wet' as not a raindrop in sight, but as a SoCal resident, who loves Mexican grub and dines out a lot, I can tell you I've never seen your proposed taco sold anywhere. I realize that doesn't mean that it isn't on a menu somewhere, but if so, not a 'must have' item.
Hope you'll tell us how it came out and what you thought of it.

Thanks Jim. Iceberg is my favorite kind of lettuce, but I did buy some romaine today. The crispier, the better (for me).
