I used to work at the local hospital as a CNA. I worked both long term care and med/surg. One night as I walked up to the elevator on med/surg the button to call the elevator lit up. The arrows would light up if someone was using the elevator but the button only lit up if you pushed it. I shrugged it off though and used the elevator when it opened. Later that same evening when I went to go home the same thing happened. One of the nurses was with me and she noticed it also. She asked if I'd pushed the button and she just didn't see it. I told her no and that the same thing had happened earlier. I figured it was probably just a short or something and told her that. She let maintenance know and they said they'd check it out.

The next night the same thing happened and I got the feeling I should say thank you. So I did. I mentioned it to other nurses and they all said that never happened to them. One of the nurses that had worked there a long time said they used to have a long term resident that liked to push the elevator button for nurses and aides that he liked. Every time I used the elevator after that the light would come on by itself. I'd say thank you. It never happened to any of the other aides or any of the nurses unless they were riding the elevator with me. I worked there for three and a half years and when I left, I was the only one that had ever happened to. I was also the only one that had never gotten stuck in those elevators.

I have another less friendly ghost story, and a couple other more friendly ghost stories. If you'd like to hear them let me know.

I just posted a ghost story in the What did you dream last night Thread
I must have missed something, I was sure the ghost stories started in that thread

Here's a another experience I had.
After my Grandmother passed I lived in her house for some time and each morning when I went to the kitchen to make coffee there would be boiled water and a tea pot with tea and cups with saucers ready and waiting. She loved her tea and always wanted to make some in her Bone China cups for everyone who visited.
Maybe she just came to visit :)

Another work story...

About 8 years ago I took care of a lovely woman, who's husband was there for every moment. Her name was Jewel and her husband was Ed. Jewel was dying and I took care of her to the end. Through the years, Ed came to stay with us because of diabetes complications, fractured hip, leg amputation and his final stay. Ed had become demented, but was always the gentleman.

His last night, I was on shift and had gone down to check on him. While I was standing there I saw someone come in the room out of the corner of my eye. I thought it was the CNA coming in to check on his roommate. I turned to look and there was no one there, but a feeling of joy came over me.

I looked back at Ed and he had a smile on his face and he was looking past me as he breathed his last. I firmly believe Jewel had stopped in to escort Ed on to the next step. I have never felt such well-being as I did at that point.

The less friendly ghost story happened when we first moved into this house. While we were moving our belongings in the cat disapeared. We'd been watching closely to make sure he didn't get out but we couldn't find him anywhere. I'd been outside searching and calling thinking he'd run off and was pretty upset and worried. Roland heard a thumping coming from the kitchen and when he went in realized it was coming from the oven. He opened the drawer at the bottom of the oven and the cat jumped out. We hadn't opened that drawer at all so we had no idea how he'd gotten in there.

The next day my sister was over checking out the new house. We were sitting in the living room and heard a crash from the kitchen. We went in and a cookie sheet and some pans that had been sitting flat on the counter, no where near the edge, had fallen to the floor. I got this fealing that I was unwelcome. I told the hubby about it and he said he'd kept seeing an old woman out of the corner of his eye.

Over the next week it felt like there was always someone watching me and not in a friendly way. The hubby said he was pretty sure the old woman had waved at him a couple of times. One evening early during our second week in the house we smelled something burning. We went into the kitchen and an orange juice carton that I'd set on the stove was burning. I'd left it on a burner but we hadn't used the stove all day so I didn't think it would be a problem. The nob for the burner had been switched on to low. We weren't hurt and the carton hadn't actually caught flames yet but it was unnerving.

The next day I came home from work and the hubby let me know the old lady wouldn't be a problem anymore. He'd found the cat trapped between the inner and outer sheets of glass in one of our windows. The hubby had been cleaning it and had the inner window open. He left for a minute and came back to find the trapped cat. These windows are old wood frames that used to be painted shut. It takes a lot of effort to open and close them and there is no way the cat could have closed it on himself. The hubby said the threats to me and the cat were enough to seriously anger him and he said he suddenly felt like he was pushing outward and filling up the house. He said he felt himself push the old woman out of the house and tell her she wasn't welcome in our home. We never had trouble again after that.

I've never been sure if I have an active imagination or not, but some nights I am fitful because I wake up and feel a presence in either the house or the room. Just a week ago I woke up and felt someone was standing outside of our bedroom. I felt it was a man, peeking in, I saw his shadow and it was wispy but defined. It was really disturbing and I was terrified. When I feel things like this, I have to touch my hubby, even just my hand on his arm or shoulder, and I feel that the physical contact helps separate me from whoever, or whatever, is watching. I've felt this most of my life, not just in one home.

Can anyone explain, or would it be an overactive dream state?

Just to note.. I have read up on sleep paralysis.. I am able to move when I wake up feeling this. I have had these feelings since I was a child.

Sleep Paralysis can be a very disturbing, HYPER real, scary, sensational sensation. When the brain goes to sleep, it is not only deleting the temp files, it is firing off synapses that need "exercise" to keep connections fresh. Sometimes, the body just doesn't sync up properly, and those hyper real experiences can happen. What you need to do is see if you are , well, paralyzed. Can you move? Do yo sit up and look? Or, are you locked in place? That is where the paralysis kicks in:it wouldn't allow your body to act out what is going on in the brain.

The sense of "being watched" is common though, and I think it goes back as a primal type of feeling, shared by many fro eons. It is just that instinctual kinda feeling where you just know, in your gut, that you shouldn't do this or that/go down that dark alley. . .

Unfortunately, that(for me)is when it gets the craziest, because you know what you know, your head says something, the body says another, and there is little middle ground to make sense of it all.
