Today I tried a new Indian restaurant that just recently opened not far from my house. The name of the place had me a little leery at first because it seemed kind of silly and cheesy. It is called Bollywood Grill and it has a movie theater theme. There is a sign outside that says something like "Now Playing...great Indian food" or something to that affect. Well I am glad I went inside anyway. I had the lunch buffet and it was quite good. The highlight for me was the goat curry. It was a little too heavy on the cilantro, but I love cilantro so that was not a problem. The decor was very nice inside. The walls are covered in pictures of Indian movies and movie stars. Most of them looks like they were from the Gone With The Wind era. The woman were beautiful so I was happy to have something to look at :)

On the way home I saw a sign on the other side of the road for an Indian market that I had never noticed before. I had some time left before I had to get back to work so I stopped in. What a goldmine! This place was great. They had a lot of veggies that I was unfamiliar with and tons of packaged items that I am sure I will be buying. I purchased a bottle of coriander chutney and a bottle of mint chutney. Their prices were great. They had so many types of dal (more than I ever knew existed). The bags were very large and they only charges $2 or less. The owner came up to me to ask if I was finding everything I needed so we got to talking. I asked if they had just opened because I had never noticed the store before. He said they have actually been there for 19 year, but they just put a new larger sign outside. I told him that the sign was working cause that is how I found them. We talked for a while and I told him I have been wanting to try my hand at Indian cooking for a while so I will be coming back to his store to stock up. He even offered his mothers assistance with recipe help if I ever need it. She was running the cash register and was very nice. I can't wait to go back there when I can spend some more $$$ :chef:

I love reading menus (I call it food porn!) My family loves discussing what we ate if any of us go to a restaurant, DH isn't as keen but my dad and I love it (mum used to as well)

That menu looks fantastic!!!!!

I love goat but you almost never see it. USed to be on the skewers at the Brazilian BBQ places but not any more. Guess most people dont care for it.

Yeah I was very surprised to see goat. I made sure to eat a lot of it so they see that it sells and hopefully they will continue to serve it :)

Two great finds in one day. I love roaming around various ethnic markets in my area. I live next door to Lowell MA so there is a great variety of various Asian and Indian markets. The aromas are fantastic!

Not to get off topic (but I am going to anyway just for a second :) ), but I just heard about a Portuguese Food festival being held in Lowell sometime soon Andy. I am getting this info third hand, but my wife said her father was telling her about it and asking if I wanted to go. If that is really what it is then I will definitely be there!

I'm jealous!! It's a 90-min drive to the nearest Indian (or for that matter, many other ethnic restaurants). I love Indian buffets, in spite of generally hating buffets. Indian food takes to that forum more than most, and we look for them when we hit Madison. Nothing like a good college town for great ethnic food!!

The UK is lucky - restaurants from the sub-continent abound due to our old Empire and newer Commonwealth ties! The interesting thing is that very, very, very few 'Indian' restaurants are owned by or have chefs from India. Most of them are either Bangladeshi or Pakistani.

Good 'Indian' food has been available in the UK since the early 50s. Nowadays it is said that CTM (Chicken Tikka Masala) is one of the British national dishes. Truth is: CTM is not Indian or Pakistani - it was invented in the UK by Bangladeshi chefs to cater to the British palate. Personally, I don't like it, it is too anaemic and not hot enough for my tastebuds. It has to be at least Madras strength before I enjoy the dish.

I did some looking around in my Lowell links and google but could find nothing about a Protuguese food festival coming up. I'll keep looking and let you know if I find something.

I think it is supposed to be labor day weekend I think. I will ask my FIL and get some more accurate info if I can.
