In addition to fireworks, morning military parades are part of the cellebration, the biggest one is in Paris (Champs Elysees).
Dancing parties are also held on the night of the 13th, generally firefighters organize them.

I am not French, but thanks for remembering since France is probably the culinary capital of the world and this is a cooking forum (I know people will argue about this)
 
Oh, is it that many years???? Not meaning the 218, meaningthe 18. When we lived in Hawaii, we were big into theme parties (I still am, it makes an excuse for myfriends to dig up recipes and even dress for the event). It was the Bastille Day Bicentennial. In Hawaii. THis was before the internet, so I had to do some research to make a flag (I knew the colors, just didn't know if the red was next to the flag pole, or the blue)(if i rmember right, blue? Hey,it's been a few years). Luckily, our friends all fell into the spirit of it and it was a great party.
