Remember the sweepstakes that James and I both won--tickets to the Carolina Hurricane's game, and we were both in the running to win a $340,000 house in Wake Forest? The game was last night. Well, bad news...

I WON THE HOUSE!!!
I really did! Only 170 of the 200 contestants showed up. We all got Hurricanes hats and white Hurricanes/St. Lawrence Homes shirts. From the 170, they drew 10 names, and I was one of them. The 10 of us got red shirts, like the first ones, but on the back they say "Finalist." We watched the first period of the game, then they brought us back "behind the scenes" where they keep the Zambonis and tons of other stuff. They had us draw a puck from a bag, to determine the order we would line up. I was number 10, so I was the last in line. They drove a new Lexus out on the ice, put tables with 10 shirt boxes on the ice, then we lined up in front of our respective boxes, 10 feet away. As they called our names, we walked up to 2 feet away. Then they asked, "Who wants to win a house?" and they counted down 3, 2, 1. On one, we were to open our boxes. Nine of the boxes had white Hurricanes jerseys in them, and one had a red one--the winner. When I opened my box, I just looked at it for a second and calmly thought to myself, "That's a red shirt." Then I grinned, pulled the shirt out, and showed it to James, who was over at the side of the ice. Someone interviewed me (a very short one--the whole box opening and everything took about 3 minutes), then they escorted James and me to the Lexus and drove us off of the ice. Then I was interviewed by a couple more people (newspaper and TV). I was never nervous throughout the whole thing, and everyone was amazed at how calm I was! We went up and finished watching the game, then the lady who was in charge of the give-away drove us over to see the house. It is SO gorgeous! It was late, so I didn't get any pictures of the whole outside of the house, but James got a picture of me putting the key in the front door, I took one of him on the porch, and I took a few in the kitchen.

That's awsome! A house... I couldn't imagine winning an entire house. It looks beautiful too. Congratulations!

OMG Barb!!!!! And we didn't go to the moutains because it was so yucky!!!!!!!!! To be there to see your face would have been priceless!!!!!!!!!

I'm am just speechless with pure joy for you and James!!!!!!!!

That is wonderful! Love the house. Appreciate it and the freedom and security it brings to you. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Now you just need to throw some evacuated tube collectors on top to take care of your hot-water needs so you don't have to pay any hot water bills.

Congrats.

Thanks everyone! This is something I won't soon forget! Now if we can maneuver through all the red-tape and fees and see if we actually can take possession of it, we might actually end up with it!

I thought about you two several times at the game last night, and as I was looking through the house. I know what you mean about yucky though. It was raining so bad as we were leaving last night that we could barely see. I don't know what North and South Carolina have against putting lights on the freeways! Even in the best weather, it can be hard to see your turn-offs!

WOW!!!

That is the most fantastic and wonderful news I've heard in a while.

Congratulations to the both of you. I am truly happy this happened to you.

Things are looking up!

WOW that is GREAT!!! It could not have happened to a more deserving couple! I am thrilled for you and James!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, you gonna move from SC up to NC?
And I gotta ask, what's the tax nut on a $340,000 house???

Congrats! Being in Raleigh, it's kinda neat that someone on a
forum I hang out in won the house!

Unbelievable! How often do people actually win these things. Congrats to you and James:) Whether you keep it or not, it was a great thing to win a house.

OMG! I read your post before that you both won and had a double chance of winning but never thought you would get it.

I remember hoping that I would see a thread like this!

That is amazing! Congrats!!!!
