Huge Mine

Saw these pics the other day. Its of an open pit mine in Russia. The thing is huge. They don't let helicopters fly over it any more because the air movement sucks them in.

This haul truck is 22 feet high and 44 feet long. The red arrow in this next pic is pointing to the haul truck as it goes down into the hole.

Just the pic of the truck going down into the hole makes me queasy.

Wonder how many miles it is to the bottom of the pit?

i wonder how long its takes to get to the bottom. u gotta keep driving in circles as you spiral downward. that must take forever!!

What are they mining for? It kind of looks like a Kimberlite Pipe, where diamonds get transported to the surface.
